Beware of Work From Home Business Scams

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has been cracking down on scammers selling fraudulent work from home business schemes and worthless job listings. They even have a code name for their latest effort, dubbed Operation Empty Promises. This crackdown has led to nearly 100 enforcement actions and dozens of criminal actions so far, and in many cases these have involved unscrupulous operators preying on people who are struggling with debt.
Unemployed people are particularly vulnerable to these enticing pitches that offer needed income for little or no work experience. One of the companies sued by the FTC, Ivy Capital, had taken more than $40 million from people who paid up to $20,000 in the belief that the company would help them develop their own Internet-based business. What they got was a worthless business coaching program complete with software that did not work properly.
